Students’ Council
The Students’ Council is formed through an election from all the students in the school after an electoral process in which those students who wish to form part of the Students’ Council present their aims to their fellow students and are then chosen through an election.
The Students’ Council is made up of representatives from the upper classes with two students from Year 6, two from Year 5 and two from Year 4 classes chosen by an election and two students from Year 3 chosen as class representatives by their class teacher.
The present Students’ Council members are:
Year 6 Kyle Agius, Kathleen Grech
Year 5 Kristian Cini, Emily Vella
Year 4 Celine Cutajar, Elvin Gauci
Year 3 Jake Mifsud, Martina Mifsud
In the first meeting of this scholastic year, the Students’ Council members chose the roles of the members. Kathleen Grech is now acting as the Students’ Council President together with Emily Vella as Vice-President, alternating monthly with Kyle Agius as President and Kristian Cini as Vice-President.
The Students’ Council meets once every month to discuss issues put forward by the students themselves. The Council is assisted by one of the class teachers, presently Ms. A. Vassallo and Ms. M. Zaffarese the headmistress of the school. During the meetings, students’ representatives have the opportunity to raise and discuss issues.
The present Students’ Council is focusing mainly on the school environment. As a school we form part of the EkoSkola project, so Students’ Council members are also members of the committee for EkoSkola. On a wider spectrum, the Students’ Council initiates the students as citizens in a democratic society. But the most important aim of the Students’ Council is to give an opportunity to the students to view their opinions and give value to the students’ point of view in their education at school.
